Dinosaur Jr.

The first fully authorised, illustrated history of Dinosaur Jr., by Dinosaur Jr. A lavishly designed autobiography, packed with rare and unseen photographs.

J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph tell the true story of the band’s history from High school through grunge and international stardom to the present day, in their own words and with extra contributions from former band members and old friends.

Each set contains two volumes and is signed by J, Lou and Murph. It also includes a limited run of new fine art prints unique to the set. Each set is presented in a clamshell box.

The volumes

Volume 1 is a special, limited edition of the Classic edition book, each signed by J, Lou and Murph.

Volume 2 is a facsimile edition of tour diaries written in 1987 and 1988 by close friend and ‘worst roadie in the world’, Jon Fetler. He not only kept a brilliant, revealing and hugely entertaining diary while on tour with Dinosaur, but also took a lot of candid and unposed, behind the scenes photographs.

The diaries capture a crucial period in the band’s development, and had not been seen or read – even by the band – until the creation of this book.

The prints

The set contains fine art prints of original Dino artwork: one by Maura Jasper and one by J Mascis.

The prints are unique to the set, and printed on fine art paper using archival ink to guard against fading.

They are ready for mounting and display straight out of the box.

Press reviews

Teeming with tension that frequently explodes into cathartic rages … talkative and open about their past in a way that hasn't been hinted at elsewhere … an engaging and often chortlesome read … an insight into the dysfunction at the heart of Dinosaur Jr.

Julian Marszalek, The Quietus

Since their regeneration, the influential Massachusetts trio have released two great albums and one very good one, plus a live DVD, but this new book could well be the pinnacle of their comeback.

A thing of beauty

8 stars

Paul Brannigan, Classic Rock

Given all they have been through over the past three decades, the band clearly deserves something as impressive as this massive oral history to document their survival.

John B. Moore, Blurt

It’s almost like they knew they’d be putting this book together one day…

Matt Melis, Consequence of Sound
